Ask ten people in the 561 where to go for a country night out and you’ll get ten different answers, depending on whether they want line dancing lessons, a mechanical bull, or just a stiff drink and a jukebox that leans Waylon over whatever’s on the radio.
Good news: this county has real range. Decades-old honky-tonks, newer rooms bringing in touring country acts, and at least one dive that’s older than most of its regulars. Here’s where to actually go.
1. Renegades Country Bar & Grill, West Palm Beach
The one everybody already knows, and for good reason. At the corner of Village Blvd and Palm Beach Lakes Blvd, Renegades is a 10,000-square-foot fixture of the West Palm nightlife scene: line dancing seven nights a week, free lessons most nights for anyone who didn’t grow up two-stepping, a mechanical bull, and a wall of TVs for football Sundays. The stage has hosted real touring country names over the years, and the kitchen holds its own too, burgers, wings, BBQ ribs, and the signature Rebel Rolls. If you only hit one country bar in the 561, this is most people’s answer.
2. Boonies Wild West Saloon, Loxahatchee Groves
Out on Southern Blvd where the county starts to feel more rural, Boonies leans all the way into the theme, wooden facade, neon signage, a saloon-style interior built around a central bar. It reopened under new ownership in 2021 with a clear vision: a western live venue where a genuinely multi-generational crowd can eat well, hear live bands, and actually dance. The steaks are hand-cut (ribeye, filet, New York strip), the vibe is down-home rather than rowdy, and it doubles as a sports bar and karaoke spot on the nights the band isn’t playing.
3. Whiskey Tango Bar & Grill, West Palm Beach
Whiskey Tango Bar & Grill on N Military Trail isn’t a dedicated honky-tonk the way Renegades or Boonies are, it’s a late-night bar and grill first, open every day from 11am to 5am, which alone puts it in a category by itself. But the live stage regularly brings in real country talent (Craig Campbell played a full set here), and there’s a real crowd that shows up specifically for those nights, hot honey burger and a whiskey pour in hand, pool table and patio going in the background. If you want a country night without committing to a full dance-hall evening, this is the move.
4. West Palm Cowboy Club, West Palm Beach
The newest name on this list, right on Clematis Street downtown. West Palm Cowboy Club calls itself “a modern honky tonk, Florida style,” and that’s about right, BBQ and live music in a space that’s clearly aiming for a younger, downtown crowd rather than a traditional dance hall. Expect brunch events with a live band, DJ sets that lean into the same energy, and a walkable location if you’re already out on Clematis for the night.
5. Moonshine Molly’s Country Saloon, Boca Raton
South county’s answer, and worth the drive if you’re closer to Boca than West Palm. Moonshine Molly’s runs line dancing and swing dance lessons (East Coast and West Coast both), karaoke, live music, and DJ nights, all wrapped around a full BBQ menu with a kids’ menu on the side, genuinely family-friendly the way a lot of country bars claim to be but don’t quite deliver on.
6. Plush Pony Lounge, West Palm Beach
The old guard. Plush Pony has been around for decades, the last survivor of what was once a much bigger regional chain, and it plays nothing like the newer, dance-hall-style spots on this list. Think an L-shaped bar, a pool table, a linoleum patch that passes for a dance floor, and regulars who’ve been coming since long before line dancing lessons were a marketing draw anywhere else. It opens absurdly early and stays open absurdly late. If you want the version of a country bar that existed before country bars became a night-out category, this is it.
7. The Crazy Horse Saloon, Palm Beach Gardens
Less a dedicated country venue than a neighborhood dive that leans hard into the saloon name, on Northlake Blvd in Palm Beach Gardens. It’s got live music, a loyal regular crowd, and enough Western branding to earn its spot here, even if the crowd on a given night is just as likely there for the game (it’s an official Buffalo Bills Backers bar) as for the band. Worth knowing about if you’re already in the Gardens and want something with more character than a chain sports bar.
